If you’re on the mailing list, or you’ve seen my Facebook page lately, you will have noticed I’m having a sale of one of my books, Just Another Day at the Office. If you’ve followed me for a while (or you are actually spying on what’s happening in my head), you might have noticed that this is the first time I’ve discounted this book. I’ve donated it to giveaways, I’ve given free copies away on my page. I have never sold it at a discount.

There’s a reason.

A look at my author page on Amazon reveals I have a bunch of books out. Except for the two Gratis Anthologies, they’re all fairly similar: cheap, cheerful, short. Just Another Day at the Office is my début novel, with the rest of my works being around 1/4th-1/5th the length. It’s my premium product, the thing I’m most proud of, because it’s the first (and currently only) work I have published which I can point to and say:

“Yes! I can write a novel. I can finish something.

Consequently, I am now discounting it for a reason as well. The story, which I first published as four individual parts, was completed a year ago on 23rd May 2013. It’s all too easy to forget these milestones, and I almost did if not for some advertising I had bought months ago, which I expected to use for something else. That something else isn’t ready yet, which actually turned out OK for me. It gave me a prod in the ribs to hurry up and do something with it, that’s a bit more meaningful than just push one of my freebies. As soon as I realised the timing, everything fell into place.

So this week for me is a time of reflection, even though I’m rushed off my feet to make this sale a success. It’s a time to realise that I’ve come quite far in a year, yet there’s always time for improvement.

I’ve made mistakes: I really should have written more last summer, instead I became lax after publishing Just Another Day at the Office, the full edition and paperback. I should’ve figured out how to advertise properly before too. But that’s OK, I’ve learned a lot anyway.

In 2012 I dipped my toes in and published one short story. In 2013 I wrote a novel and a few more bits and bobs. I also got involved in my first collaboration with other writers, in the form of the first Gratis Anthology, which was a raving success. In 2014 I’ll finish my second novel and like to think that I have generally upped my game with improved covers, and a more level headed approach to advertising.

Things are heading in the right direction, let’s see what the rest of the year will bring!

Birthday Giveaway!

Although it’s simply staggering how quickly this year is passing by, I’m kind of excited that it’s October, because that means that my birthday is coming up! The past year has been quite amazing and I’ve come so far, thanks to all the wonderful people who’ve read my work and supported me in this effort to become an author. I feel like giving something back and so I am. I will be giving away 5 Signed Copies of Just Another Day at the Office via Goodreads. I’m told it’s quite simple to enter, but you do need to be a Goodreads member already (if you’re not, it’s possible to sign up via Facebook or Twitter, which might be worth doing, assuming you love to read.) JAD4 ThumbnailIn honour of the release of Just Another Day at the Office IV, here’s a little teaser from it…

My return to our table is timed perfectly and there are no onlookers really when I appear next to John again. Bending down, I discreetly deposit the contents of my hand into his trouser pocket.

“I thought perhaps you’d like to carry a little something of mine with you to Germany,” I whisper in his ear, before sitting back down.

He still looks confused when he slips his hand into his pocket, but his expression immediately changes once he’s able to feel the soft lacey texture of my still skin-warm thong against his fingers. Before he’s able to say a word, the waiter arrives with the main course.

As expected after the promising starters, the food does not disappoint. My enjoyment is heightened by his intense stares which have become even darker now that I’m panty-less. Clearly he is having a very hard time keeping calm and has given up on small talk completely.

He cuts off the waiter as he asks about a dessert or cheese order and instead just requests the bill.

Just Another Day 4 – the wait is almost over!

Great news, even if I say so myself! I have finished writing Just Another Day at the Office IV. and am currently editing it before publishing. Some of you may already know, but Just Another Day at the Office – the Erotic Romance serial following Cath and John in their budding relationship  – is getting a fourth and final part.

Firstly I’d like to apologise for being behind (on my self-imposed) schedule; ideally I had wanted to publish part 4 during April but now we’re already coming towards the end of May. However, better late than never and I’m confident it won’t disappoint.

The plan is to finish editing within the next couple of days and publish it sometime on Thursday. Keep an eye out on Facebook or Twitter or wherever, I’ll make another announcement to let you know when it’s being processed by Amazon.

Thanks for all your support, and patience. It’s been a lovely experience, writing about these two characters which I have grown very fond of over time. Even though this will be the end of their story, I can’t rule out revisiting them at some point in future, if inspiration hits me. In the meanwhile, I have a few more projects that I’m working on, which I hope you’ll find worth a read as well.

Oh and before I forget, here’s the (very predictable) cover 😉

Sneak Peek Sunday (Just Another Day at the Office)

My brain is on autopilot as he witters on about what he expects from me, I try to keep eye contact to a minimum while uttering generic responses where appropriate.

“Yes I understand,” I say.

Punctuality is important, got it. My eyes wander around the room, over the posed photographs of him sharing a handshake with some equally pompous looking dick. Dick – an appropriate nickname for Richard Porter – purchasing manager at the large electronic components distributor where I will be working soon. By now I’ve seen enough of the over dressed hardboard office from where he rules his domain and I stealthily glance through the window that overlooks the office floor. The desks are arranged in groups of three or four with partition walls surrounding each cluster. Most group arrangements that I can see are fully occupied except one.

“Yes indeed I’m very excited to start my career here …” I hear myself say.

I give Richard – Dick – a quick glance. Pointless, he’s still looking at my cleavage. Perhaps I should offer him a tissue. I try to breathe through my mouth to avoid the “manly” smell he’s producing.

Outside on the office floor the man who sits alone in a grouping of three desks catches my eye. He turns around on his chair as he answers the phone and only now I can fully appreciate him. Not much older than me, if I had to guess I’d say maybe he’s about 30. His full head of dark blonde hair, a bit messy and just slightly longer than intended. A perfect face, if there can be such a thing. Completely regular features and a straight nose as if copied from an ancient Greek statue; not that I recall seeing many Greek statues of a man of his size. I can’t tell their exact colour from here but even at this distance his eyes exude kindness and warmth. He looks so serious, speaking into the phone with his full, sensual lips and a thoughtful look on his face.

The above Sneak Peek is from Just Another Day 1 - tinyJust Another Day at the Office ; part one.

Why can’t things ever be simple? (Just Another Day 3; Preview)

JAD 3 - MedPart three of the Office Romance; Just Another Day at the Office is being published shortly. To get you in the mood, find a little preview below.

“Cath, I’m sorry it had to come to this, but I’m sure you’re aware of the reason I’ve asked you to come in.” Dick gives me a look which suggests he enjoying this more than could be considered professional.

He closes the vertical blinds and sits down on his chair, hands folded on the desk in front of him.

“I have some idea, yes.” I squint slightly and maintain eye contact.

Now more than ever it’s important to not show any sign of weakness, even if my heart is pounding. I cannot get fired!

“When I hired you, I made it clear that your initial three months would be on a trial basis. I don’t need to tell you that there have been concerns.”

“If it’s not too much to ask, I would like you to clarify in what way my work has been lacking?” My tone is curt and I continue to stare at the smug expression on his face.

“It’s not so much your quality of work, not beyond what can be expected from someone just undergoing initial training. But you cannot deny that there have been issues with your attitude and efforts to fit into the team here.” Dick adjusts his hands slightly.

He truly seems to think he is handling this with the finesse of a seasoned politician. He’s wrong.

“Say, is it not necessary to have a representative from HR present during meetings such as this one?” I change the topic.

His face hardens.

“As your direct manager, I have the authority to hold performance appraisals without involvement from HR if I feel it is the appropriate path to take.”

“Fine. It was not clear to me that this meeting would serve as a performance appraisal, since I have not been given time to prepare.” It’s obvious that Dick isn’t enjoying my responses, as the twitching of the corner of his mouth reveals.

“Cath, let’s cut the bullshit. The reason we’re in here is that I am willing to give you one last chance to adjust your attitude. I can’t have people in this team who won’t give their best.”

He gets up and leans against the side of his desk, too close for comfort. My heart is racing and I’m not sure whether to run or fight. But I do really need this job and my bank statement at the end of the month doesn’t fail to remind me.

“You may not realise it, but I’ve seen you look at me from across the office…” he says.

My mouth falls open but I have no words to respond. How deluded can one man be!

Meanwhile he just looks down at me, enjoying the inherent position of power he has while I’m still sitting down. And the view from above seems to please him as well.

“What is it that you want,” I sneer. My question is quite unnecessary, I suspect that I already know.

Just Another Day at the Office – II UPDATE!

Ever since I’ve published part one, the pressure has really been on to bring out part two within a reasonable timeframe. I’m not a hardened, pro writer who can churn out stories on a schedule, yet!

Actually, the idea of publishing this story in multiple parts seemed like a really brilliant one because I had quite a bit of the story already prepared. And I thought part one and two were practically ready, with part three needing a lot of additions to bring the story to a close. Since then, I’ve been thinking, and planning, and thinking some more. And lately I’ve been rewriting part two a bit to make it more fun.

I truly believe in the philosophy to write what I enjoy personally, so I know at least if I have a doppelganger out there somewhere, they’ll like it too. Well, after receiving positive feedback and urging messages to hurry up and let people have part two already, I felt a hint of guilt. Like something is lacking in the story of part two. And I’m doing my best currently to do something about it.

So to all my readers who have read part one already and simply NEED to know how the story continues, I beg for patience. I wouldn’t want to rush things now and then publish something which I know in my heart needs improvements. That being said, I’m positive I can manage to publish by Valentine’s day! And I truly hope you’ll agree that it was worth the wait.

Oh and in order to speed things up, I’ve already got the cover ready for the whole series anyway, in the same style as part one. Enjoy!
